Historical Context
There is no clear history of when animal abuse began and who the first to abuse animals were but you can imagine that the abuse is been around ever since man started the domestication of animals and even then you can imagine animals were being abused.
Luckily there is history of organizations and people who raised their voice against animal abuse. Since the late 1880s there is history of societies for the prevention of animal cruelty. The purpose of all these societies was to have a voice and a more humane treatment to animals. The American Humane Association was created to put an end to the inhumane treatment of farm animals and the awful conditions they were kept in.
Thanks to organizations that were created against animal abuse there have been people who have worked to better the life of those animals suffering. Another thing these organizations do to help stop the abuse was push for laws against the people who abused any animal weather it was theirs or not.
Another organization that was created in the late 1800s, specifically in 1886 was the MSPCA. Since their creation they have been involved in the protection of animals. When the first animal cruelty law was enacted the MSPCA had police officers who were paid and volunteers working across the state of Massachusetts to investigate and prosecute animal cruelty allegations. They later expanded this kind of law across the U.S.
Thanks to organizations and laws like that now we could fight animal cruelty by reporting the abusers.
